< a subconscious return toward the spaces within your bodily memory > is an experimental film about the exquisite strangeness -- the queerness, the softness, the interdependence -- of be(com)ing a complex organism through entanglement of celluloid, earth, canyon, human.

Movements enter the senses. They are agitated and moved around in the interior, through interactions of fluid, blood, tissue, bone, ancestral spirit, wind, water, heat, sweat, desire, death. Gesture emerges through movement, surfacing through the skin, where bodies touch. The auditory landscape becomes the breath and heartbeat of the organism. Field recordings from the site of filming are modified through granular synthesis. Like film, the sound is split into micro-pieces -- grains -- that are layered on top of one another and played at varying speeds, phases, and frequencies.

The hand is a site of touch, of care, of relationality. The hands in this film are persisting, grasping, undulating up. Each hand cycles relentlessly, becoming other hands, becoming other bodies, reaching for the modes of survival that live under our skin, in our bones, in our cells, in our ancestral memories.

how did i come to have you in my hand; that which collapses and expands time.
in my hand, enveloped in bone and skin and blood and flesh muscle tissue fluid nail
this hand comes back again, persisting, reaching for something, undulating up.
this hand cycles relentlessly, becoming other hands, becoming other bodies

through repetition and loops you materialize
a subconscious return toward the spaces within your bodily memory
